This seminar gives you the opportunity to:
- Refresh the knowledge from your previous SRC course.
- Practise your radio English again.
- Prepare for your next sailing trip — or upcoming SRC exam.
- Get plenty of hands-on practice with original VHF radios.
The core idea of this refresher seminar is that you head out on your next trip feeling confident. That matters: at sea you are part of the entire maritime radio traffic. Once the lines are cast off, there is no time left to practise.
These compact morning seminars without exam are run with a maximum of six participants and last around 3 to 3.5 hours. Afterwards you still have plenty of time to visit the show.
All controls and functions are explained again. Topics such as channels, distress, urgency, safety and routine traffic are briefly revisited via video projector.
For the practical exercises we use original VHF radios — the iCom M323, one unit per participant. The radios are networked, so communication between the "radio stations" is similar to real conditions at sea.
The following typical scenarios are practised in English and then discussed together:
- Calling a marina to request a berth.
- Requesting the weather forecast.
- A crew member is injured — you need medical advice.
- You hear a distress message — how do you respond?
- You send a distress message via DSC.
- The phonetic alphabet and the use of standard "procedure" words.
- You have engine failure in a busy shipping lane.
- You spot a floating container.
- Sending a Mayday-Relay.
- Receiving an English distress message and translating to German.
Seminar starts: 10:15. Seminar ends: approx. 13:30. A seminar booklet can be purchased on-site for €20.–.
Our SRC instructor is a British national, served several years with the British merchant marine as a professional radio officer, and presents this seminar in a clear and accessible style.
